THE EMAIL OBJECTION

Bradford District Local Plan – Preferred Options (Regulation 18) - Comments and Objections

Sites at Holme Wood North (SE45/H, SE31/H, SE18/H, SE13/H) and Holme Wood South (SE46/H, SE47/H, SE48/H and SE37/E).                                                                                                                             South East Bradford Access Road (SEBAR).

I  STRONGLY OBJECT to the Local Plan for the following reasons:

1. GREEN BELT DESTRUCTION

The Council has demonstrated no exceptional circumstances for building on the protected Green Belt in Tong and Fulneck Valley – one of the last remaining green spaces between Bradford and Leeds and designed to prevent urban sprawl. The Plan shows no appreciation of the cultural, historical, recreational, environmental aspects of this conservation area and the damage Green belt loss would cause.

 2. OUT OF DATE HOUSING NEED/NUMBERS

The Plan does not take into consideration the change in housing needs due to the effects of the pandemic and Brexit, which are currently unknown. The national census on 21 March 2021, should also inform the Council’s future planning policy on housing by revealing up-to-date details of population distribution and allow a complete reappraisal of household growth and future working habits.

3. NO TO THE ROAD!

There is no information nor evaluation of the impact of the South East Bradford Access Road (SEBAR).  Any road building especially on protected Green Belt land is inconsistent with the Council’s declaration of a climate emergency in 2019.  The major concern is this road will release further development sites in the Green Belt causing irreversible destruction of wildlife and countryside and increase air pollution and traffic.

3. HEALTH AND WELLBEING.

Thousands of local residents already have only limited access to green space and nature and regularly use the Valley recreationally for walking, running, cycling and horse-riding etc, particularly during lockdown. Any encroachment on this precious “green lung” will negatively impact their health and wellbeing.

4. THREAT TO WILDLIFE

The Valley is an extremely biodiverse area, home to hundreds of already threatened species of wildlife, trees and plants but there has been no real assessment of the impact of large scale development on the environment, especially on ancient woodland at Black Carr and Kit Woods. Building in it would be an ecological disaster.

5. FLOOD RISK

Large scale building at the top of the Valley will lead to flooding at the bottom as evidenced in  February 2020 and February 2021 when Troydale and areas within a stone’s throw of Holme Wood South were under water.  A proper flood risk assessment by the Council is vital and should be made before any allocations of sites for development.

Many Thanks
